Meira Warshauer (1949-    )

Meira Warshauer composerMeira Warshauer was born in Wilmington, North Carolina and studied composition with Mario Davidovsky, Jacob Druckman, William Thomas McKinley, and Gordon Goodwin. Her works have been performed and recorded to critical acclaim throughout the United States and in Israel, Europe, South America, and Asia. She has received numerous awards from ASCAP as well as the American Music Center, Meet the Composer, and the South Carolina Arts Commission. Critics have described her music as "a spiritually ecstatic, beautifully-felt...representation of the mystical creative process." In the words of Ina Ester-Joost, "Meira's music comes from a place which is beyond music. It is like a prayer ... from deep within the soul. It always evokes deep responses from the listeners and is very moving for me to perform."
