Federico Schumacher (1963-    )

Federico Schumacher, composerFederico Schumacher, born in Santiago, Chile, studied music at the University of Chile, and composition, electroacoustics and computer assisted composition in France, where he has lived since 2001. He has a diploma in Electroacoustic Composition from Pantin's Conservatory, studying with Christine Groult, and an Instrumental Composition diploma from Blanc-Mesnil's Conservatory, studying with Philippe Leroux. He is [founder?] of the Electroacoustic Community of Chile (CECh), which he represents at the assemblies of the International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music (CIME). He is also co-founder of the International Festival of Electroacoustic Music Ai Maako, which, since 2001, takes place in Santiago, Chile. Through grants from the Chilean government, he is conductin several research projects concerning Chilean and Latin America Electroacoustic Music History. In particular, he has written a History of Chilean electroacoustic music. He has composed music for solo instruments, chambers ensembles and orchestras using electroacoustics and has created Acousmatics works. He has received awards and commissions for his compositions, including second prize in the Prix Bruynél 2005, and first prize in Miniaturas electroacusticas 2006. He has also been selected several times for composition grants from the Chilean government. His music has been performed in Chile, Argentina, France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, USA, Germany, Mexico and Cuba.
