Don Pride (1966-     )

Don Pride, composerDon Pride is currently pursuing a Masters degree in composition at USM. The Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra premiered his first major piece for orchestra, One Breath, in May 2004. He received a grant for this work from the American Music Center in New York City.  Pride also maintains an active performance schedule as a classical guitarist and has presented concerts and recitals throughout the United States. Pride played lead guitar as part of Clay Aiken's band in 2006 and 2007. He currently teaches guitar at St. Joseph’s College and was formerly head of the guitar department at the University of Maine at Farmington. Pride has studied privately with distinguished guitarists Eliot Fisk, David Leisner, Mark Delpriora, Keith Crook, and Tony Gabouri. He has studied composition with Pulitzer Prize nominated composer Charles Fussell as well as Elliott Schwartz, Dan Sonenberg and Mark Scearce. Pride graduated summa cum laude from the University of Southern Maine with his bachelor’s degree in Classical Guitar Performance and pursued further graduate studies at Manhattan School of Music in New York City and New England Conservatory in Boston.
