Gay Pearson (1943-     )

Gay Pearson, composerGay Pearson received degrees from Lawrence University and Purdue (in Meteorology - she worked in the New Jersey DEP Bureau of Air Quality Evaluation from 1984-96); jazz theory and improv studies were undertaken with Gerald Price, Laurie Altman, Eric Shaw and Jim Ridl. . She is currently working with Armenian pianist/composer Vardan Ovseplan. Before coming to Maine, Pearson performed in various venues (coffee houses, bookstores, museums, libraries) in the Trenton, NJ area; she also taught piano and theory at the Trenton Conservatory, and served as resident pianist (jazz and traditional) at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Trenton. She plays with a jazz combo for vespers at the Unitarian Church in Newburyport, MA. Pearson currently performs in Maine, and has produced four self-produced CDs to local and national acclaim: "Pearson gives her audience a double barrel of swinging excitement that’s married with a love for the lyrical melody."
