Tom Myron (1959- )
Tom
Myron was born in Troy, NY. His compositions have been
commissioned and performed by the Kennedy Center, the United States
Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Portland Symphony Orchestra, the Eclipse
Chamber Orchestra, the Atlantic Classical Orchestra and the
Yale Symphony Orchestra. Myron's "... luminous, magnificently
crafted music" is being
championed by orchestras, classical and jazz instrumental soloists,
filmmakers and choreographers across the U.S., Great Britain and
Eastern Europe. Of his music, Myron has said, "It has always struck me
that the fastest way to sound like someone else is to copy their
harmonic strategies." And while aspects of his referential vocabulary
cover ground ranging from the more innocent American sound of Roy
Harris and Aaron Copland to the architectural poly-rhythms of Elliott
Carter, his sound is very much his own. It is an artful display of
convention without rhetoric, construction without mechanism, and
insight without ego. Myron's music embodies a more eclectic America,
encompassing influences from jazz, modernist & popular idioms
as well as a variety of visual arts. "COMPOSITIONS Myron Links ~ ~ ~ Works by Genre
