Dan Locklair (1949- )
One
of the most distinguished composers of his generation, Dan Locklair is
Composer-in-Residence and Professor of Music at Wake Forest University
in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His music is widely performed
throughout the United States, Canada and abroad at venues such as Alice
Tully Hall and the Kennedy Center. His compositions include symphonic
works, a ballet, an opera, and numerous solo, chamber, vocal and choral
compositions. His awards have included annual ASCAP awards, a Kennedy
Center Friedheim Award, and the top Barlow International Competition
Award. He was named Composer of the Year in 1996 by the American Guild
of Organists. His many commissions have come from such organizations as
the Knoxville Symphony, the Binghamton Symphony, the American Guild of
Organists, the Mallorme Chamber Players and the Bel Canto Company. His
music has been performed at major festivals around the world and
broadcast over the BBC, Czech Radio, The CBC and National Public Radio.
Dr. Locklair?s music has been extensively recorded and is available on
many labels. Dr. Locklair holds a Master of Sacred Music degree from
Union Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the
