Patrick Harlin (1984- )
Born
in Salt Lake and raised in Seattle, Patrick Harlin has been
composing and playing piano since age 8. He is classically
trained, with experience in jazz and modern improvization. Harlin has
studied composition with Michael Daugherty, Bright Sheng, Roger Briggs,
Alexei Girsh, Bruce Hamilton, and Lesley Sommer. He has studied
electronic music with Erik Santos, and piano with Jairo Gyranymo, Jeff
Gilliam, and Donald Denegar. Prior to college Patrick placed nationally
three times in the National Federation of Music Clubs Junior Composer
Awards. While at Western Washington University he received the
Ford Hill Piano Scholarship, twice a Western Washington Piano
Department scholarship, honorable mention, second place and first place
(different years) in the Composition Department Contest, as well as
winning the Piano Department call for new works. He is currently
on fellowship finishing his Master's degree at the University of
Michigan. He recently won the Lightworks Film Festival award for
best original score. He currently resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan,
