According to James R. Maclean, "Bartholomew understands the natures of the instruments used and manages to capture the complexity of the setting in a way that is fresh, portraying a sense of sorrow and a soaring sense of hope that is somehow fitting and certainly fulfilling."

What's New with Greg Bartholomew . . .

Brian Chin to Premiere New "Summer Suite" for Trumpet
Trumpeters Nate Mayfield, Adrian Kelly and Bryan Appleby-Wineberg will premiere arrangements for alternate accompaniment
Trumpeter Brian Chin will give the world premiere performance of Seattle composer Greg Bartholomew’s new "Summer Suite" for trumpet and string quartet at the Seattle Composers’ Salon at 8 p.m. Friday, May 1, at the Good Shepherd Center Chapel, 4649 Sunnyside Ave. N., in Seattle, Washington.

The Summer Suite was commissioned by Chin and five other trumpeters: Nate Mayfield of Austin, Texas; Adrian Kelly of Perth, Australia; Bryan Appleby-Wineberg of Glassboro, New Jersey; Marco Esperti of Mesagne, Italy; and Matt Burke of Manchester, U.K. The work is in three movements, Popsicle Rocket Sunrise, Still Life with Melon & Sand, and Red Cherry Lark. It is scored in four arrangements for different accompaniment. Mayfield will premiere the arrangement for trumpet and piano later in May. Kelly and Appleby-Wineberg will follow with premiere performances of the arrangements for trumpet with chamber orchestra and trumpet with string orchestra, respectively. The Manhattan premiere will be presented September 28 by Jean-Christophe Dobrzelewski, trumpet, and Carl Cranmer, piano, on the Composer’s Voice concert series.

Bartholomew's music is frequently performed across the United States and in Canada, Europe and Australia by such highly-regarded instrumental ensembles as Third Angle New Music Ensemble, the Alaska Brass, and the Aeolian Winds of Pittsburgh, and such acclaimed choral groups as Seattle Pro Musica, the Oratorio Society of Minnesota and Austin Vocal Arts.

Chin is one of the most exciting young trumpet players in America today. An international soloist and advocate for new music, he has commissioned and premiered many new works and is the creator of the Universal Language Project. Co-founder of the Seattle Trumpet Consort, Chin also performs frequently on baroque trumpet, serves as Principal Trumpet for the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, performs for the Seattle Symphony and Opera Orchestra and teaches full-time at Seattle Pacific University.

The Seattle Composers' Salon is an bi-monthly informal presentation of new music by regional composers.
Featuring finished works, previews, and works-in-progress, the salon brings together composers, performers
and audience members in a casual setting that allows for discussion and experimentation.
